How does the EU support Ukraine during the war?

We've gathered facts about EU aid since the start of the full-scale invasion
🔹 Since the beginning of russian full-scale invasion, the EU has mobilized about 4.1 billion euros for the overall economic, social and financial stability of Ukraine in the form of emergency macro-financial assistance, budget support, emergency aid, crisis response and humanitarian aid. Military aid measures have also been provided under the European Peace Fund (€1.5 billion), which will be used to reimburse member states for material military support to Ukraine, and an additional €500 million is currently being mobilized.

🔹 The global fundraising campaign 'Stand Up for Ukraine', organized by the European Commission, raised €9.1 billion for people fleeing the war both inside Ukraine and abroad. The European Commission provided an additional 1 billion euros, and Ukraine received another billion euros as a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

🔹 Macro-financial assistance and budgetary support
In the period from March to May 2022, 1.2 billion euros of macro-financial assistance was allocated to Ukraine. The EU is also providing additional grant aid of 120 million euros to support state-building and ensure viability. The European Commission also provided Ukraine with additional macro-financial assistance in the form of loans in the amount of up to 9 billion euros.

🔹 Humanitarian aid
348 million euros were allocated for humanitarian aid programs for people affected by the war in Ukraine. Also, 330 million euros were allocated to the emergency aid program, which ensures access to basic goods and services, such as education, health care and food.

🔹 EU countries introduced a temporary protection mechanism, under which Ukrainians fleeing the war received:
🔸 right to residence;
🔸 access to the EU labor market;
🔸 access to housing provision;
🔸 social and medical assistance;
🔸 children and adolescents who are not accompanied by their parents have the right to the appointment of guardians and education.
🔹 The EU also supports our energy industry: Ukraine's power grid has been synchronized with the EU. It is planned that the EU will continue to provide reverse gas flows to the country. Ukraine will also be able to take advantage of the EU's joint procurement of gas, liquefied natural gas and hydrogen.
🔹 The European Commission abolished import duties on all Ukrainian exports to the EU for one year.
🔹 The European Commission outlined an action plan for the creation of "Solidarity Paths" to ensure Ukraine the opportunity to export grain, as well as import the goods it needs - from humanitarian aid to animal feed and fertilizers.

👉 The EU will also help in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
In particular, the "Platform for the Reconstruction of Ukraine" will be created, which will be headed by the Commission and the Ukrainian government. This Platform will be responsible for supporting the reconstruction plan concluded and implemented by Ukraine and will bring together partners, international organizations and EU member states providing assistance.
The European Commission also plans to create the "RebuildUkraine" Fund, which will combine grants and loans for the reconstruction of Ukraine. It will be embedded in the EU budget, ensuring transparency, accountability and proper financial management of this initiative, with a clear link to investment and reforms.
