Interview for Radio Europa Liberă Moldova

"We have to do everything possible to win", - said Nadija Afanasieva, director of Ukrainian Institute for International Politics in an interview with Radio Europa Liberă Moldova.

Nadija Afanasieva told that Ukrainians are determined to win this war. When this victory will happen - depends on the partners. The sooner the better, in terms of armaments, humanitarian aid, and everything related to the army and defense.
Main points from the interview 👇

About Ukrainian resistence
The first reaction of many was panic and confusion. But society quickly mobilized. Now Ukrainians are united. Although there are politicians who are trying to destabilize the situation: they raise the issue of corruption, question the validity of decisions. Now society reacts very sharply to such things. Ukraine is at war, and we must do everything possible to win. Only after the victory we will discuss who and how acted during this war.

About help from the West
We were pleasantly surprised when the EU countries started to act by imposing sanctions and supplying weapons. After all, we understand well how complex decision-making processes are in the EU.
But on the other hand we have relations with Hungary, Germany, France. They say one thing and do quite another. Ukrainians die every day, and we should never think about how to save Putin's face. This is the wrong diplomatic approach.
We are now noticing some war fatigue in the West. That is why our civil society, the media and politicians need to send very clear messages: “Yes, we understand: you have your plans and problems, but by supporting us, you are helping yourself. If Ukraine loses, war will come to you. The first will be Moldova, Romania and Poland. You can't be sure with such a neighbor in the east"

About negotiations
Negotiations with russia need to be resumed from the very start. This "zero point" is on the battlefield. We will be able to win the negotiations when we have the necessary weapons.

About the lessons of this war for Moldova
It is important for Moldova not to be passive and get rid of the inferiority complex that is inherent in many post-Soviet countries - Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. We have demonstrated our desire to join the European Union. And this course must remain clear and understandable. Ukraine has long said that there can be no cooperation with the aggressor. And it took Europeans 8 years to understand that this matter is of importance not only for Ukraine, but for the whole region.
